Of course we all know "Going Green" is all the rage in the world today, although we here at Houston Apartment Insiders hope it's not just a fad! The more we can all do to help protect our environment on a day-to-day basis, the better for everyone in the future! There are a few simple things that apartment residents can do in order to help our environment in their Houston apartment:
- One of the easiest things is to make sure to turn of all of your lights when you leave your apartment. This will not only help the earth, but it will lower your electricity bill as well! Keep your electronics plugged into surge protectors and just flip the switch when you are not using them. This works for cell phone chargers, toaster ovens, blenders, TV's, etc.
- Stop using paper towels or at least cut down on the amount you currently use. We're all guilty of pulling 5 paper towels off the roll just to soak up a small spill when really one paper towel would have done the trick. Make a conscious effort to reduce how much you use paper towels and switch to washable bar towels or cotton cloths instead. They're great for cleaning any surface and they are easily washed with the rest of your laundry
- Also, be aware of what cleaning products you use. Not only can some of them contain harsh smelling chemicals that are bad for the environment, but they can be bad for your health as well. Try to find organic or natural products at the grocery store or anywhere else you shop. They're super easy to find these days
- Finally, recycle! Just because you live in an apartment does not mean you should not continue to recycle your plastic, paper, and glass items. Either pick up a bin and make a point of making a weekly trip to a recycling center or talk to your property manager about starting a recycling program at your apartment complex that everyone can participate in. More and more properties are taking part in programs like this and their residents are so pleased
